Thankful Thursday on Monday

My heart is full of gratitude tonight so I can’t wait until Thursday:

Thank you, God, for music.  I’ve told you many, many times before, but I’m so glad you created it.  It reaches me.  It moves me.  It helps me connect with You like nothing else.

Thank you for my daughters.  I see so many little ones brought to the doctor’s office by their moms and it makes me remember the fun times I had with my girls when they were young.

Thank you that my youngest has “come back” this year.  That she lets me hug her again, lets me tell her I love her without pushing me away, and spends time with me gladly fills my heart to the very top.

Thank you for my work friends and my church family and that I’m starting to feel more at home here.

Thank you for my cats, for their little chubby, furry, lovey selves.

Thank you for this big house to live in and for leading us out from under the enormous pressure of trying to sell that house back in St. Louis for years and paying two house payments.  I think back to what that was like and realize how blessed we are now.

Thank you for who you are, for being mysterious and wonderful.  Your love and faithfulness amaze and bewilder me.

I love you, God.  Thank you!

Do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God.  Hebrews 12:27 The Message

The Lord is my God!
I will praise him and tell him
how thankful I am. Psalm 118:28  CEV

Thankful Thursday 1 day late

Oops, I almost forgot about Thankful Thursday this week.  It is Friday already isn’t it?  And Friday’s almost over.

I’m thankful that I feel so much more at home in my church family than I did a year ago – we were so new here last Easter.   I’m thankful for love, for people who gather to remember Jesus in taking the Lord’s supper, for hearing the story again that I’ve heard so many times but still tugs at my heart.  I’m thankful for imagination and how it helps me picture myself at the table with Jesus and his disciples; Continue reading

Thankful Thursday is back!

My sister reminded me about Thankful Thursdays, something we used to do, and I think it needs to be resurrected!  The more I learn about and practice  thankfulness, the more valuable it reveals itself to be.

Thankfulness has the power to crowd out complaints, fear, distrust, worry, and more from the human heart.  When I thank God for something, I acknowledge that He’s the one who gives every thing to me.  When I thank Him for a tough lesson or hard time it walks me closer to acceptance and then peace in the midst of enduring and perservering.

So, what am I thankful for today? It would take too many pages to list it all.  Today I thank God for my coworkers.

God has placed me in an office with many fun, smart, hard-working people (mostly women) and we make a good team.

Now that I’ve been there a year, I’m getting to know them better and realize some of my best friends are these that I spend 8 hours a day with.  What a blessing!  I know from experience that working with women can be not so fun, catty, and/or full of drama but it’s not that way among my little team at work.  That is definitely something to be thankful for!

So, thank you, God for the people you’ve introduced me to at the ENT office. Love them through me.  Hear their prayers and help them in the troubles and challenges many of them face.  Thank you!

The Thursday of Thanks

It’s Thursday and you know what that means – thankfulness!  I thought I’d go A to Z today.  I’m thankful for:

A – Apples, especially crispy, tart ones

B – Babies, baby hugs, baby smiles…babies – whenever I get a chance to hold a friend’s baby or take care of them, my troubles seem to fade for a while

C – Cats, specifically Rocky the wonder cat, except when he’s knocking things off the bathroom counter for fun at 2:30 in the morning

D – Dogs, specifically Sunny our sweet geriatric canine.  We may have to put her down soon so I’m extra thankful for her and giving her extra lovins.

E – Excel.  I know, weird, but it popped in my head.  My work would be a lot tougher if someone hadn’t invented Microsoft Excel.

F – Farts.  Just think how we’d feel if we couldn’t fart.  That gas has gotta come out somehow and I think it’s great that God made it happen in a way that makes us laugh.  Not sure why He made them smell so bad, though.  I would have made them smell like cinnamon rolls.

G – Girls.  My girls, my sister, my mom, my girlfriends, girls in the youth group at church and my daughters’ college friends.  Girls rock.

H – Hair.  Even though I change my mind on style a lot, I have enough hair for 10 people and don’t want to take it for granted.  This has come to the forefront with so many of my friends dealing with cancer and chemo.

I – Ice cream.  DUH.

J – John, my partner, love and friend.

K – Kimmi, Kaitlin and Krissy.  Okay, I know that’s 3 k’s but it’s my list.

L – Leaves, especially the bright orange-red ones on maple trees in the fall, especially on a sunny, blue sky day.

M – M & Ms – my latest favorite is the pretzel ones

N – New songs – it’s so great to find a new song I love – something fresh.

O – Oreo McFlurries, snack size of course.

P – People, on the whole they’re very interesting and good company.  They can also be toots but I guess that goes with the territory.

Q – Quiet

R – Really good, faithful friends  (I know that should be in the “Fs” but humor me)

S – Soup – I love making soup.  It’s one good thing about fall and the upcoming winter.

T – Toenails.  I’m losing one of mine and never thought to be thankful for them.

U – Underwear.  Seriously – we’re better off for it right?

V – Vacation – something I’d love to have right now!  It’s great when it comes.

W – Water.  Another thing I definitely don’t want to take for granted.  Clear, clean water to drink.  Running water in my house.

X – Christ (X is the Greek letter symbolizing Christ –  like in “X-mas”)

Y – Yelling at a concert – I was just thinking how fun that is.

Z – Zoos.  St. Louis has one of the best and it was FREE.  I miss going there!

How about you?  Share some of your A-Z thanks…

‘Tis Thankful Thursday

I forgot about thankful Thursday last week  ~gasp~ so I want to post before I forget again.

Thursday makes me think of being really close to the weekend

Which makes me think of free time and a lil’ bit of sleeping in

Which makes me think of pillows

Which makes me glad someone invented pillows

Which makes me impressed by people who invent things

Which makes me think of our brains

Which makes me ponder a moment in awe of God’s ingenuity

Which makes me want to try and think harder and use more of my brain’s potential

Which makes me laugh a little

Which makes me feel good, laughing that is

Which makes me glad God thought up laughing, what a great idea!

Which makes me want to show you this:
